It's our tenth anniversary

Picture Anniversary It's really hard to believe that a small station like Always Country has been on the air for 10 years. As Ronnie Milsap sings, “I wouldn't have missed it for the world” and I hope you feel the same.

The station began due to my big mouth. I had asked another Internet station if they would play more country music and they told me if you want more country music come dj for us and play your music. So I did. Two months later I was fired because the Rock dj's felt I was stealing there listeners. Funny though that they faded into the sunset 7 years ago and we plod on playing the music we love.

There are many people to be thanked along the way and at the very beginning it was folks like DJ Gala, Tiff, DJ Country, Michael d'Aussie, Dana and her mom, DJ Rose, a gal in Alaska who's name I forget, and a friend from Georgia, who really didn't want to be a dj, but had a great southern accent.

As the years have passed many dj's have come and gone, sometimes of their own volition and sometimes with a nudge. At times a puzzle piece can be a perfect fit, other times not so much and while you may try to force it, it just won't fit.

Our current staff is Susanne, Volker/German Cowboy, Big John, Ol' Kjay, Lori, Ray and, when my evil beagle pup will allow, even me. On extended leave are Graywolf, Cindy, Johi, Cowboy Bill and Hillbilly Hoosier. We look forward to their return during the celebration of our 10th year on air.

A year ago we promised all of our listeners that we would not request funds on the air or on our website but for one month a year and we have held true to that promise. The month we will bug you to death is February. I wish we were independently wealthy, but we're not. We began a bit early this year, but it is true that our costs are US350 per month to keep the station on air. However, to be honest the dj's also contribute. In a way it was a system shock thermometer to give you an idea of what it costs to operate even one of the Internet's smallest stations. If you genuinely like what we do help us out as much as you can and if you can't please continue to listen and tell your friends into country music; for you are our best advertising.

Our goal is to keep Always Country alive as long as you want our music. Historically, less than 1/4 of funding has been from listeners, we the staff make up the rest. It's been a roller coaster, but we wouldn't have missed it for the world. We really can't use the word donations anymore for some legal reasons, but we will have a “CONTRIBUTE” button should you wish to help us remain on the air.

Thank you all, for as always, without you we have no reason to fight on.

The old man and his dog

Picture ChristmasShortly after putting his companion Cody to sleep last year, Gramps decided to get a new puppie named Chase. Of course he knew it wouldn't be a breeze in his age to train a puppie. But he took the challenge and he's still alive ... and they lived happily ever after, errr, until two nice men in white coats escorted Gramps to an institution. Watch the video
